Hi! I’m Amanda Espinoza. Welcome to my corner of the internet where I get to connect with an amazing online community of writers and readers. This blog exists so I can meet you. I hope you stay and say hello in the comments. Thanks for coming by!

I have been blogging since 2007 on a family blog at I also created a parenting blog and sold the site 2.5 years after launching. More recently, my husband and I blog about becoming Digital Tentmakers at Life With a Mission. This site is where I get to practice writing, share my heart, talk about the things I love, and meet new friends.

What Brings Me Joy

Here are a few things that I absolutely love. Yes, time travel is on the list. Sadly, time travel isn’t a reality – yet.

My family – I have been married 11 years to Daniel Espinoza. He is a web developer and blogs at We have three small children: Annabelle, Roman, and Zander. I love being with them and watching them learn and grow. I feel really lucky that I get to homeschool my three kiddos.

Jesus – I feel like I have known Jesus my whole life. Beginning in a Baptist Sunday School, then in a charismatic setting, and now through my home church of 10 years in San Antonio, Texas. I have seen Jesus answer prayers and give me hope when I needed it. I am eternally grateful for his sacrifice for me so I can spend eternity with him.

Books – Jane Austen will forever be my all time favorite, but lately I have gotten into Science Fiction. I have happily led a ladies book club for many years. Non-Fiction books have grown on me since I found that I can actually read one in its entirety without being bored to tears. If you need a book recommendation, please ask me!

Good friends – A conversation over coffee with a girl friend energizes me. We all get busy, but sometimes I need to flag down a friend and go out.

Travel – Exploring, adventuring, and seeking the answer to “what’s over there?” thrills me to no end. Instilling a wanderlust to travel in my kids is one of my favorite things. I also love traveling my great state of Texas.

Movies – While growing up Home Alone was always my favorite movie. It barely edged out The Sandlot for number one. I hope my taste in film has matured along with my age. I have seen every Wes Anderson film. Most of all I love the magic of movies that can transport you to whole other world.

Banjo music – The complicated layered melodious sound of a banjo always fills me with joy. My Banjo Goodness mix on Spotify is filled with Steve Martin and Steep Canyon Rangers, Punch Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Chris Thile & Michael Daves, Trampled By Turtles, and more.

CookingErin Chase of $5 Dollar Dinners and Ree Drummond of The Pioneer Woman taught me how to cook. If it weren’t for the internet and being inspired by multiple seasons of Top Chef I would be a terrible cook. Thankfully if I need to impress folks I only need to whip up a Pioneer Woman recipe like Chicken and Dumplings.

Time travel – I have been a sucker for time travel stories ever since my middle school teacher showed us the 1960 film The Time Machine and he asked us what three books we would take back to rebuild civilization.

That is probably more than you wanted to know about me. What about you? Do you have a favorite film or book? Who taught you how to cook or are you still learning like me?
